UK Expects New Wave of Bulgarian and Romanian Immigrants
The Bulgarian Post 2006-07-31 09:42:36 Increasing number of immigrants from Eastern Europe, including Romanians and Bulgarians, was expected in the UK, a report of the British foreign ministry said. The rapid increase could lead to problems with healthcare and social securities in Britain, Bulgarian National Radio reported. The report warns that state aid might be needed for some of the newly arrived immigrants, which in turn would attract more foreigners to the UK. According to the report the arrival of many immigrants brings down wages, which could lead to social dissatisfaction within the country. Some of the social problems related to the expected immigration wave include the need for more hospital beds, as well as for infrastructure funding from the cities where immigrants plant to settle, the report said. Ministries in the UK already received orders to draft emergency plans related to the big number of workers expected to enter the country once Romania and Bulgaria became EU members, the national radio reported. |
