Interior Minister Roumen Petkov dismissed the head of Sofia’s traffic police Ilia Iliev, an Interior Ministry press release said.

The decision was taken after Iliev was charged with malfeasance and the creation of corruption opportunities in the department. Head of the administrative service department of the traffic police Tomi Tomov was also dismissed.

Iliev was investigated in relation to the organised crime group led by his son Nestor Nestorov. The group dealt with tax evasion and fake documentation.

Also today Petkov accepted the resignation of the Fire and Emergency Unit head Kiril Voinov.

Voinov was also charged with malfeasance and learned the charges from the prosecution on August 21. He submitted his resignation on the same day.
