George W. Bush: Thank You for Being an Ally
The Bulgarian Post 2007-06-11 07:26:27 US President George W. Bush finished his European tour in Bulgaria. Georgi Parvanov insisted on more american investments in energy sector. Bush backed Bulgarian calls to free five nurses sentenced to death in Libya on charges of infecting children with HIV. US President George W. Bush has been the second US presedent to vist Bulgaria after the visit of Bill Clinton in 1999. Sofia is the final leg of an eight-day European tour including visits to the G8 summit in Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy and Albania. Bush had formal talks with President Parvanov and Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev in Sofia on June 11. Bulgaria's government is a staunch US ally, US President said in a join press conference with his counterpart Georgy Parvanov. He said that Bulgaria has achieved a great success during the recent 10 years in economics and in developement of democracy. Bulgarian President was concerned about the global security in Europe. He said that the decision on the antimissle shield over Europe should be taken concernin both US and Russian interests. Mr Bush thanked Bulgaria for its support in Iraq and Afghanistan, BBC reported. George Bush said the release of Bulgarian nurses in Libya was a "high priority". "They should be released and they should be allowed to return to their families," he said, adding that the US would make representations to Libya on behalf of the Bulgarian authorities. |
