Bulgarians abroad should meet strong administrative and diplomatic help Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said at a work meeting Monday.
Kalfin gathered the heads of Bulgaria's diplomatic and consulate missions abroad to dwell on topical foreign policy questions and the operation of diplomatic missions in a series of meetings that will go on throughout the week.
Prime minister Seregey Stanishev, Parliament Chairman Georgi Pirinski, and EU Affairs Minister Meglena Kuneva also take part in the conference later.
Representatives of the various ministries, the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, the State Tourism Agency and Bulgarian Investment Agency will exchange experience with the diplomats, during the summit.
Bulgaria's former prosecutor and current Kazakhstan envoy Nikola Filchev, who caused commotion failing to appear in court as a witness, was sitting isolated at the very end of the hall. Filchev became the eye of a media scandal in June, when he suddenly left his ambassadorial post without permission for "personal reasons." For several days no one knew where he was until he finally appeared in Bulgaria. Kalfin said that this violation was not serious enough to dismiss Filchev.
On Monday evening President Georgi Parvanov, envoys and consuls in Bulgaria, will join Kalfin and the diplomats for a reception celebrating the Day of the Diplomat, which was July 19.
