Bulgaria has ranked first in the results of the international operation Containment V”, the National Customs Agency announced on Friday.

The raid took place July 10-17 under the aegis of the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECI) Center and it aimed at busting the Southwest Asian heroin traffic directed to Western Europe, and using the Balkans route.

Bulgaria has seized the most significant quantities of drugs - 35 kg of ecstasy and 10 kg of heroin. The country has also succeeded to bust 1,654,000 pieces of cigarettes and 121 antique coins, data showed. Additional seizures of opium and marijuana were registered by the partner countries.

Bulgarian police and customs officials cooperated during the week the same way these authorities cooperated in all the countries in the region of South-East Europe, officials added. The country has also achieved the best results in the previous anti-drug trafficking operation, organized by the European Union.
